With the Christmas period fast approaching and New year not far behind. Many of us  will struggle with healthy eating and how to prevent/ avoid overindulgence. We all do tend to eat and drink more than we usually would over this time of year  but here are 5 ways to help you stick to healthy eating during this festive season and most importantly all year round.

A realistic goal: ensuring your goal is realistic and achievable is the first step. Be honest with yourself when making your goal and do not set up yourself up to fail with unachievable goals. For example I will maintain the same weight over the festive period.

Motivation: having motivation will help you along the way, we can all lack motivation at times but it’s important to keep going. If you lack motivation think of all the positive things you will gain from eating healthier and how it will positively effect your health and wellbeing. Think of it as a Christmas present to yourself!

Do not deprive yourself: it’s important to not deprive yourself of the foods that you love as this will only make you want it even more and you will probably over indulge when you do have some.

Exercise more: now the truth is in order to stay in shape we need to be physically active-especially over the festive season. If you want to eat all the things you enjoy them you need to put more energy into burning off those calories. There really is no secret to staying in shape, the harder you work the better results you will see. You may have more time off over the festive period-perfect for going to gym more often or jog round the block.

Do not skip meals: Our bodies need food to refuel so small regular meals are recommended. Skipping meals is not the way to go and in fact will not help you lose weight. Reducing ready made meals and processed food will help too.
